Albany, New York is a location flooded with great event options. So much so, that occasionally, a really great one slides by the wayside. That’s why this spring, we wanted to round up a few summer activities that you should definitely make time for. Here we go!
The Aurora Games
Are you passionate about women’s sports? Well hold on to your hats, because the first ever Aurora Games is on its way to Albany! The event will be held August 20th – August 25th at the Times Union Center and will highlight top tier women’s sports stars!
Per DOWNTOWN Albany the Aurora Games were, “Designed to celebrate the best in women's sports, entertainment and culture, the Aurora Games - named in honor of the Roman goddess of the dawn - will be held every two years and will welcome all-star athletes, as well as coaches and trainers, representing more than 15 countries in downtown Albany to compete in an international competition of teams comprised of the Americas vs. the World.”
Alive at Five
Okay, this is technically a series of events…but we think you should go anyway. Alive at Five is a free concert series that takes place each Thursday (with the exception of 4th of July) from June 6th – August 1st! What’s better than FREE LIVE MUSIC? Not much…

Albany's Hidden City House & Garden Tour
We know it’s technically one day early (summer officially starts on June 21st…), but we just couldn’t not tell you about the Albany's Hidden City House & Garden Tour, held on June 20th, 2019. During this unique event, “Guests are able to tour, at their leisure, the beautiful and historic homes and hidden gardens that make up the Center Square, Hudson/Park and Washington Park neighborhoods. Residents of these neighborhoods open their homes and gardens for one night only.
Included in the tour again this year is the delightful Hudson-Jay Park, where guests will find creatively designed floral, vegetable and herb pots being raffled off to support park beautification. Ben & Jerry’s will be scooping ice cream to celebrate the first day of summer!”
Solid Sound Festival 2019
Are you a fan of Wilco? You need to find a way to their three-day music and arts festival. Technically, the festival is not in Albany, but it is worth the hour drive to attend this one-of-a-kind event from June 28th – June 30th, 2019, in nearby North Adams, Massachusetts.
Adirondack Balloon Festival 2019
You assumed the last one on the list would be a 4th of July event, right? Nope! We like to mix it up. Though we do recommend you put New York State's 4th of July Celebration on your calendar, we also want you to set aside space for the Adirondack Balloon Festival 2019!
This end of summer event runs from September 19th - September 22nd in Queensbury and it is absolutely free! According to GlensFalls.com, “The balloon festival features the launch of dozens of balloons, all brightly colored, and many in fun and special shapes. Visitors can walk inside half-inflated balloons, watch riders prepare for the flight, and see the exceptional sight of air balloons taking off from the ground nearby, one after another, and floating into the sky.” Don’t miss it!
